Sold multiple times, this rare Honcho Sportside is number three in our five-series production of J-10 Honcho Sportside restorations. Out of 1264 vehicles originally produced by Jeep during the 1980-1983 era, this is one of five of the finest examples to be found worldwide.
This Honcho was restored to JeepHeritage Stage One restoration standards but has been updated to Stage Two standards (multipoint fuel injection, Bluetooth, hydro-boost and four disc brakes) since the initial build. The vehicle was fitted with a 6 inches suspension lift in the back and 4 inches in the front to be able to accommodate the original Goodyear 37 inch MTR tires (same family as the mythical Hummer H1 tire). Over the years and due to unavailability of the 37 inch tires, we have updated the vehicle to BF Goodrich All Terrain 35x12,5x15 inch tires.
During the restoration, we took the Jeep down to its bare frame. The frame was sandblasted, galvanized and powder coated so it would never rust again. The body was media blasted, metalized and painted to the highest standards. Undercarriage was polyurea coated before marrying back with the original frame. The drivetrain got rebuilt and upgraded to an AMC 401, the largest engine ever made by AMC in the days. Interior was reupholstered to highest standards in the Laredo style with high bucket seats and full leather on dash, door panels, seats, arm rests, … New old stock bumpers were located as well as the grille. Wiring was completely redone and audio was upgraded to amplified Bluetooth and Sirius. Full stainless steel exhaust from front to back. The rumble of this Jeep is phenomenal.

Motorization
The objective of VIGILANTE is to offer engines that are much more performant than the original ones (the carburated 5.9 Liter 8 cylinder or inline 6 engines). The goal is to get as much reliability and power as the high-end Sport SUVs that are currently found in todays market .

For the VIGILANTE line, we chose to maintain the four-wheel-drive mode of operation. That’s why, to best distribute the high power of the HEMI engine, we selected an Advance Adapters Atlas-II type of reinforced transfer case.

Axles
The axles are the last part of the kinetic chain, and we wanted axles in accordance with Jeep’s legacy for our VIGILANTE line. The obvious choice for us are the DANA 60 and DANA 44 type from Currie Enterprises: these new axles are the standard of reference in the axles’ market for both their sturdiness and their reliability.

Long travel suspension and powerful brakes.
EIBACH coils and adjustable FOX RACING 2.0 shock absorbers have replaced the original leaf springs suspension used on Full-Size Jeeps.
More acceleration requires more braking power. The drum/disc combination originally found on Grand Wagoneers was functional but completey outdated. That’s why we replaced it with four huge slotted/drilled/vented discs that can withstand high temperatures. The firm grip is provided by BAER 6-piston calipers. This combination is installed on all VIGILANTE Jeeps.
